29. The CHAIRMAN said that if there were no objections he would take it that the Committee wished to adopt draft resolution A/C.1/48/L.12 entitled " Study on the application of confidence-building measures in outer space " without a vote, as the sponsors had requested.

Mexico believes that the viewpoints, means and initiatives to prevent an arms race in outer space have evolved considerably since the " Study on the application of confidencebuilding measures in outer space " was published 15 years ago, and now there is a need for new and more detailed international approaches and understandings on this issue.

At its fourth session, in its recommendation 4/4, the Committee welcomed the working paper prepared by Ms. Chung (A/HRC/AC/4/CRP.1) and expressed the hope that the Council would consider entrusting the Committee with the preparation of a Study on the application to older persons of existing United Nations human rights instruments and on any possible gaps in the current legal framework.
