1. Mr. Halbwachs (Controller), introducing the performance report on the use of support account resources for the period from 1 July 1996 to 30 June 1997 (A/52/838), recalled that in its resolution 50/221 B, the General Assembly had authorized an amount of $30,534,400 for the period in question.

The Committee notes that the estimates for support account resources for the period from 1 July 2002 to 30 June 2003 are presented, for the first time, using the results-based budgeting format, in accordance with the request of the Committee, endorsed by the General Assembly in its resolutions 55/231, 55/271 and 56/241.

The Secretary-General, in his report A/61/858/Add.1, estimates support account resources for the period from 1 July 2007 to 30 June 2008 at $254,500,100 gross ($229,410,300 net), which would provide for the staffing of 1,314 temporary support account posts and non-post resources.
