Under the draft resolution, the Assembly would call upon the Secretary-General to respond promptly and positively to such a request and to accelerate planning, in consultation with the Security Council, for a United Nations role in the election process, in coordination with the observer missions of the Organization of African Unity, the Commonwealth and the European Union.

We cannot help but note the extremely positive role which was played in ensuring the success of the complex internal negotiating process in South Africa, and also during the holding of free and fair elections in the country, by the Observer Missions of the United Nations, the Commonwealth and the European Union and by the Organization of African Unity and many non-governmental and public organizations.
ولا يسعنا إلا أن نلاحظ الدول الايجابي للغاية الذي اضطلعت به بعثة اﻷمم المتحدة للمراقبة، والكمنولث والاتحاد اﻷوروبي ومنظمة الوحدة الافريقية والعديد من المنظمات غير الحكومية والعامة في ضمان نجاح العملية التفاوضية الداخلية المعقدة في جنوب افريقيا، وأيضا خلال إجراء انتخابات حرة منصفة في البلاد.

8. Welcomes the invitations extended by the Government of Nigeria to the United Nations, the Organization of African Unity, the Commonwealth and the European Union to provide electoral assistance and to observe the elections at all levels so as to ensure the credibility of the electoral process;

Welcomes with appreciation the report of the Secretary-General of 10 January 1994 and agrees with the proposals contained therein concerning the mandate and size of UNOMSA, including the proposals for the coordination of the activities of the international observers provided by the Organization of African Unity, the Commonwealth and the European Union as well as those provided by any other intergovernmental organizations or Governments;
