17. In paragraph 20 of the report of the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions dated 8 March 1994 (A/48/897), the Advisory Committee requested the Secretary-General to explore the possibility of obtaining vehicles for use by the engineering unit of UNIKOM free of charge.

The present report is submitted pursuant to Security Council resolution 1148 (1998) of 26 January 1998, by which the Council approved the deployment in the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) of the engineering unit required for demining activities and of the additional administrative staff required to support the deployment of military personnel.
