١٧ - ترحب بقيام اﻷمين العام، استجابة لطلب السلطات الكمبودية المساعدة على مواجهة الانتهاكات الخطيرة الماضية للقانونين الكمبودي والدولي، بتعيين فريق من الخبراء لتقييم اﻷدلة الموجودة واقتراح تدابير أخرى، كوسيلة لتحقيق المصالحة الوطنية، وتعزيز الديمقراطية، ومعالجة قضية المسؤولية الفردية؛

(b) To examine the request by the Cambodian authorities for assistance in responding to past serious violations of Cambodian and international law, including the possibility of the appointment, by the Secretary-General, of a group of experts to evaluate the existing evidence and propose further measures, as a means of bringing about national reconciliation, strengthening democracy and addressing the issue of individual accountability.

68. As a first immediate step, the Special Representative recommends that the Secretary-General be authorized to appoint experts to evaluate the existing evidence of responsibility for the Khmer Rouge human rights violations.
