The European Union wished to emphasize the need to monitor the application of the Rules at the national level, and strongly supported the work, in the framework of the Commission for Social Development, of the Special Rapporteur, particularly his recommendations on the need to offer more advice and assistance to developing countries in their efforts to apply the Standard Rules, as well as to focus follow-up activities on certain areas.
