Since 1998, when the General Assembly adopted the Action Plan on International Cooperation on the Eradication of Illicit Drug Crops and on Alternative Development, States affected by the illicit cultivation of coca bush and opium poppy have adopted national plans and programmes, including alternative development programmes, to reduce and eventually eliminate such cultivation.
