The Council further requested the Secretary-General to assign the Monitoring Group established pursuant to resolution 1363 (2001) to monitor, for a period of 12 months, the implementation of the aforementioned measures.

It was re-established for a period of 13 months on 25 July 2012 by Security Council resolution 2060 (2012), in paragraph 14 of which the Council requested the Secretary-General to take the necessary measures to re-establish the Monitoring Group, consisting of eight experts, drawing on the expertise of the members of the Monitoring Group established pursuant to resolution 2002 (2011).

By paragraph 8 of resolution 1455 (2003) the Secretary-General was requested to reappoint, in consultation with the Committee, five experts for a further period of 12 months, drawing as much as possible, and as appropriate, on the expertise of the members of the Monitoring Group established pursuant to resolution 1363 (2001).

I wish to draw your attention to the attached letter, which I sent to the Chairman of the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1267 (1999) concerning Al-Qaida and the Taliban and associated individuals and entities prepared following the latest report (S/2003/1070) of the Monitoring Group established pursuant to resolution 1363 (2001) (see annex).

In accordance with the understanding reached in the Council's prior consultations, the President, with the consent of the Council, extended invitations under rule 39 of the Council's provisional rules of procedure to Heraldo Muñoz, Chairman of the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1267 (1999), and Michael Chandler, Chairman of the Monitoring Group established pursuant to resolution 1363 (2001).
