In its resolution 51/202 of 17 December 1996, the Assembly decided on the organization of the preparatory process of the special session.

2. In paragraph 46 of its resolution 51/202 of 17 December 1996, the General Assembly further decided on the organization of the preparatory process of the special session.

2. In its resolution 51/202 of 17 December 1996, the Assembly set out the preparatory process of the special session, and in resolution 52/25 of 26 November 1997, established a Preparatory Committee, which held its organizational session from 19 to 22 May 1998 in New York.
٢ - وفي قرارها ٥١/٢٠٢ المؤرخ ١٧ كانون اﻷول/ ديسمبر ١٩٩٦، حددت الجمعية العامة العملية التحضيرية للدورة الاستثنائية. وفي القرار ٥٢/٢٥ المؤرخ ٢٦ تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر ١٩٩٧، أنشأت الجمعية لجنة تحضيرية ما لبثت أن عقدت دورتها التنظيمية فـي الفتــرة من ١٩ إلــى ٢٢ أيـار/ مايــو ١٩٩٨ في نيويورك.

Recalling its resolution 54/93 of 7 December 1999, by which it decided to convene a special session in September 2001 to follow up the World Summit for Children, and stressing the importance of addressing the rights and needs of the child in the preparatory process of the special session and the special session itself,

In the context of the preparatory process of the special session, two reports of the Secretary-General on the preliminary assessment of the implementation of the outcome of the Summit (E/CN.5/1999/4 and A/AC.253/7) had already been submitted to and discussed by the Commission for Social Development at its thirty-seventh session, in February 1999, and the Preparatory Committee at its first session, in May 1999, respectively.
