17. In accordance with the recommendations of the Secretary-General (S/1995/631), the Security Council, by its resolution 1012 (1995) of 28 August 1995, established an international commission of inquiry to investigate the assassination of the President of Burundi on 21 October 1993 and the massacres and violence that followed.

The Committee welcomed the adoption on 28 August 1995 of Security Council resolution 1012 (1995), on the creation of an international commission of inquiry to establish the facts relating to the assassination of the President of Burundi on 21 October 1993, the massacres and other related serious acts of violence which followed.
٧ - ورحبت اللجنة باتخاذ مجلس اﻷمن القرار ١٠١٢ )١٩٩٥( المؤرخ ٢٨ آب/أغسطس ١٩٩٥ بشأن إنشاء لجنة تحقيق دولية مهمتها اثبات الوقائع المتعلقة باغتيال رئيس بوروندي في ٢١ تشرين اﻷول/أكتوبر ١٩٩٣، وكذلك المذابح وأعمال العنف الخطيرة اﻷخرى ذات الصلة التي تلت ذلك.

(a) To establish the facts relating to the assassination of the President of Burundi on 21 October 1993, the massacres that followed and other serious acts of violence and political crimes committed between that date and the date on which the resolution of the Security Council is adopted;

I wish to refer to Security Council resolution 1012 (1995) of 28 August 1995, by which the Council requested the Secretary-General to establish an international commission of inquiry into the assassination of the President of Burundi on 21 October 1993, as well as to establish a trust fund to receive voluntary contributions, as a supplement to help finance the work of the commission.

The Commission's main functions will be to establish the facts relating to the assassination of the President of Burundi on 21 October 1993 and the massacres which followed, and also to recommend measures of a legal, political or administrative nature to be implemented after consultation with the Government of Burundi and especially those designed to bring to justice persons responsible for those crimes.
