We sincerely hope that the Secretary-General will be able to report to us within 60 days that the Sudan has extradited the suspects — for the sake of the war on terrorism we all must commit to fight, for the sake of improving relations between the Sudan and all of its neighbours and for the peace and stability of the region.

The European Union strongly requests the Government of the Sudan and all other parties to the armed conflict in southern Sudan to extend the current ceasefire which expires on 15 January 1999 to all parts of the country without any time limit in order to facilitate humanitarian assistance to the suffering people of the Sudan.
