The present note contains the recommendations adopted by the Board of Trustees of the United Nations Voluntary Fund for Indigenous Populations in March 2003 concerning the allocation of travel grants to attend the second session of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues.

At its fifteenth session in 2002, the Board of Trustees approved the revised Cost Plan of the Fund for 2003, in which it recommended to the Secretary-General to increase the amount of money for allocation to beneficiaries of travel grants to attend the second session of the Forum, taking into consideration the large number of applications that had been received to attend the first session of the Forum.

30. At its fifteenth session in 2002, the Board of Trustees recommended that a special session be held, from 24 to 26 February 2003, to approve applications for travel grants to attend the second session of the Permanent Forum which was scheduled to be held in May 2003.

31. As a result, the Board of Trustees followed the procedure that was approved in 2001 for intersessional consultations concerning the new mandate of the Fund as decided by the General Assembly resolution 56/140 in selecting beneficiaries of travel grants to attend the second session of the Permanent Forum.

12- ولاحظ المجلس بارتياح أن الأمانة نفذت خلال فترة ما بين الدورتين الولاية الجديدة التي حددتها الجمعية العامة لتمكين 43 مراقباً من السكان الأصليين من حضور الدورة الثانية للمنتدى (نيويورك، 12-23 أيار/مايو 2003) بعد استكمال عملية الانتقاء وفرز أكثر من 200 طلب.

(c) During the intersessional period, the Secretariat implemented the new mandate established by the General Assembly to enable a total of 43 indigenous observers to attend the second session of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues held in New York from 12 to 23 May 2003.
