As for the Greek Cypriot side's reference to a past Security Council resolution, I wish to point out that, rather than paying lip-service to United Nations resolutions, it would be much more constructive for the Greek Cypriot side to remember that the overriding common theme in all relevant United Nations resolutions is the finding of a just and lasting solution to the Cyprus question through negotiations on an equal footing.
وفيما يتعلق بإشارة الجانب القبرصي اليوناني الى قرار سابق لمجلس اﻷمن، أود أن أقول إنه بدلا من التشدق بقرارات اﻷمم المتحدة، لعله من المجدي أكثر للجانب القبرصي اليوناني أن يتذكر أن الموضوع المشترك الرئيسي في جميع قرارات اﻷمم المتحدة ذات الصلة هو التوصل الى حل عادل ودائم لمسألة قبرص من خلال التفاوض على قدم المساواة.

I trust that all outside third parties who wish to contribute to the efforts for the finding of a solution to the Cyprus question through negotiations will see to it that the Greek Cypriot side abandons this policy of escalation and tension, which threatens the peace and equilibrium in our region, and takes the necessary steps in the direction of establishing trust and confidence in the island without any delay.
وإني لعلى ثقة من أن جميع اﻷطراف الخارجية اﻷخرى، التي ترغب في المساهمة في الجهود الرامية إلى إيجاد حل لمسألة قبرص من خلال المفاوضات، ستعمل على حمل الجانب القبرصي اليوناني على التخلي عن سياسة التصعيد والتوتر التي تهدد السلام والتوازن في منطقتنا وعلى اتخاذ الخطوات اللازمة من أجل إيجاد جو من الثقة التامة في الجزيرة دون تأخير.
