On 2 June, in informal consultations, before the Security Council's mission to the Sudan and Chad from 4 to 10 June, the Council received a briefing from the Assistant Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Hédi Annabi, on the situation in the two countries concerned.

We welcome the growing practice of sending missions to the field, such as the one sent to Central Africa and to Ethiopia and Eritrea in November 2005, and the one to the Sudan and Chad in June 2006.
