The target of 30 per cent representation of women in public committees was set in the Four-Year Plan of Action. According to the Law on Equal Status and Equal Rights, an approximately equal number of women and men had to be appointed to those committees.

26. The recommendation of the General Assembly that, as a general rule, agenda items that could be considered in the Main Committees should be referred to those committees rather than to the Assembly in plenary meetings has also met with little success, as the number of items allocated to plenary meetings has increased over the last three sessions.
٢٦ - أما توصية الجمعية العامة التي تقضي كقاعدة عامة بأن تحال بنود جدول الأعمال التي يمكن أن تنظر فيها اللجان الرئيسية إلى تلك اللجان بدلا من أن تحال إلى الجمعية العامة في جلسات عامة، فلم يتحقق فيها كثير من النجاح، حيث زاد عدد البنود المحالة إلى الجلسات العامة على مدار الدورات الثلاث الأخيرة.
