44. The mandate of the UNAMSIL Human Rights Section includes monitoring, investigation and reporting, training and capacity-building, sensitization and advocacy, and technical cooperation.

46. During the period under review, UNAMSIL Human Rights Section carried out over 35 cross-sector and community training and sensitization sessions on basic human rights, TRC and the Special Court for Sierra Leone.

44. In order to address the specific human rights issues in Sierra Leone, OHCHR has assisted the UNAMSIL Human Rights Section in designing specialist posts to cater for and effectively respond to the specific thematic subjects that require close attention in the context of Sierra Leone.

46. The UNAMSIL Human Rights Section continued to encourage exchanges between human rights, humanitarian groups and the wider United Nations community in Sierra Leone through the fortnightly meetings of the human rights committee which it hosts.

As a follow-up to that training, UNAMSIL Human Rights Section is assisting the Government to draw up a policy paper on treaty body reporting, allocating responsibilities to specific ministries for preparing the reports, and developing a process in which all relevant stakeholders, including the NGO community, can participate.
