In the USA, a specific standard for wastes subject to mercury recovery has been set; the waste having a total mercury content greater than or equal to 260 mg/kg is subject to mercury recovery based on the Land Disposal Restrictions (see: U.S. Code of Federal Regulations: 40 CFR 268.40).
