Among the initiatives taken for women's empowerment were a strategy to reduce the feminization of poverty and end violence against women, the introduction of legislative structures to empower women, and a national plan of action based on the Beijing Platform for Action and observations made by the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women on his country's last periodic report.

The Committee also reiterates its concern that the possibility of a child being kept in solitary confinement for up to 10 days as a means of punishment for children deprived of liberty continues to exist (CRC/C/15/Add.250, para. 32) even though it has almost never been used since the consideration of the last periodic report of the State party.

" In a case where the period between the date of the examination of the last periodic report and the scheduled date for the submission of the next periodic report is less than two years, the Committee may suggest in its concluding observations that the State party concerned, if it so wishes, submit the latter report jointly with the periodic report to be submitted at the following date fixed in accordance with article 9 of the Convention. "
