In 2007, significant progress was achieved in the implementation of the Monitoring and Reporting Mechanism, established in accordance with Security Council Resolution 1612 to monitor, report and respond to six grave violations against children in situations of armed conflict.

59. The number of countries involved in the Monitoring and Reporting Mechanism (established under Security Council resolution 1612 (2005)) on grave violations of children's rights by parties to conflict increased from 11 in 2007 to 13 in 2008, with more than half located in Africa.
59 - وزاد عدد البلدان المشاركة في آلية الرصد والإبلاغ (المنشأة بموجب قرار مجلس الأمن 1612(2005)) بخصوص الانتهاكات الخطيرة لحقوق الطفل من جانب أطراف النزاع من 11 بلدا عام 2007 إلى 13 بلدا عام 2008، مع العلم أن أكثر من نصف هذه البلدان يقع في أفريقيا.

(b) Inviting them to support the country task force on monitoring and reporting, in consultation with UNAMA and the Government of Afghanistan, in its effort to devise a plan to extend the monitoring and reporting mechanism established by Security Council resolution 1612 (2005) to all areas of the conflict, with a view to enhancing child protection in Afghanistan;
