25. On 14 December 1998, Omar Serushago, former head of the Interahamwe militia in Gisenyi Prefecture, pleaded guilty before Trial Chamber I, composed of Judge Laïty Kama, Presiding, Judge Lennart Aspegren and Judge Navanethem Pillay.

In order to strengthen the mutual relationship between the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and the Government of the Republic of Rwanda, President Laïty Kama, accompanied by Vice-President Yakov Ostrovsky, and Judge Lennart Aspegren travelled to Kigali and met with Mr. Pasteur Bizimungu, President of the Republic of Rwanda, and apprised him of the current judicial activities of the Tribunal and the difficulties faced by it.

39. The indictments issued in respect of Laurent Semanza (ICTR-97-20-I) and Jean Bosco Barayagwiza (ICTR-97-19-I), who were arrested in Cameroon in 1996, were confirmed by Judge Aspegren on 23 October 1997.

41. Hassan Ngeze (ICTR-97-27-I), Sylvain Nsabimana (ICTR-97-29A-I), Aloys Ntabakuze (ICTR-97-30-I) and Gratien Kabiligi (ICTR-97-34-I) were also arrested in the course of the NAKI operation, and their indictments were all confirmed by Judge Aspegren.
