Following a statement by the Rapporteur (Yemen), a statement was made by the representative of Afghanistan, in which he orally corrected the draft resolution.
وبعد أن أدلى المقرر (اليمن) ببيان، أدلى ممثل أفغانسان ببيان صوب فيه مشروع القرار شفويا.

Under the military dictatorship of General Zia ul Haq from 1977 to 1988, a once secular military was aligned with political Islam, and jihad was used as a tool to recruit and support insurgents fighting against the Soviet-backed government in Afghanistan.
