In another note by the Secretary-General (A/C.5/56/6/Add.1), the General Assembly was informed that the Government of Japan had nominated Mr. Kenshiro Akimoto to fill the vacant post.

The Acting President: In paragraph 5 of its report, the Fifth Committee recommends that the General Assembly should appoint Mr. Kenshiro Akimoto as a member of the United Nations Staff Pension Committee for the remainder of a term of office beginning on 1 January 1999 and ending on 31 December 2000.

3. Since the terms of office of Mr. Akimoto, Mr. Blukis, Mr. Etuket, Mr. Fox, Mr. Gorita and Mr. Menon will expire on 31 December 1994, it will be necessary for the General Assembly at its forty-ninth session to appoint six persons to fill the resulting vacancies.

13. Mr. Akimoto (Japan), Mr. Al-Mansour (Kuwait), Mr. Getachew (Ethiopia) and Mr. Leis (United States of America) were recommended for appointment to the Committee on Contributions for a three-year term beginning on 1 January 2004.
