Ms. Amoah (Ghana) said that both the Declaration on International Economic Cooperation, in particular the Revitalization of Economic Growth and Development of the Developing Countries, and the International Development Strategy for the Fourth United Nations Development Decade stressed the need to ensure the growth of the world economy and to accelerate development in the developing countries through enhanced international cooperation.
٣٧ - السيدة أمواه )غانا(: قالت إن اﻹعلان المتعلق بالتعاون الاقتصادي الدولي والاستراتيجية اﻹنمائية الدولية يؤكدان ضرورة كفالة نمو الاقتصاد العالمي وتعجيل عملية التنمية في البلدان النامية بفضل تعاون دولي متزايد.

Ms. Amoah (Ghana) said that the Convention to Combat Desertification needed to be accorded high priority because deserts and drylands covered approximately 40 per cent of the total land surface of the Earth; 250 million people from over 100 countries were directly affected by desertification, while one billion people were also at risk from the negative effects of dryland degradation.
