His delegation was grateful to the Committee for the work it had been doing in recent years and wished to urge it to take into account the views and special needs of Member States before looking in detail at the principles proposed in the report of the Task Force on the Reorientation of United Nations Public Information Activities.

The Task Force on the Reorientation of United Nations Public Information Activities should be commended for laying the groundwork for effectively projecting the image of the United Nations and strengthening the necessary partnership of Member States in taking the message of the United Nations to the world.

Priority should be given to ensuring correct and balanced transmission of the views of Member States to the world through the United Nations Public Information Activities, so as to avoid giving the impression that those activities served specific countries by publicizing or justifying their national policies: United Nations public information activities should be consistent with the universal character of the Organization.
