253. As stated in the Labour Code of 18 April 2009, forced or compulsory labour is prohibited in Turkmenistan.

In accordance with article 8, forced or compulsory labour means all work or service exacted from any person under threat of punishment and which the person has not voluntarily offered to perform.
وتعرِّف هذه المادة العمل القسري أو الإلزامي على أنه أي عمل أو خدمة تُفرض عنوة على أي شخص تحت التهديد بالعقوبة دون أن يكون الشخص المعني قد تطوع بذلك من تلقاء نفسه.

Within the context of this Directive, forced begging should be understood as a form of forced labour or services as defined in the 1930 ILO Convention No. 29 concerning Forced or compulsory Labour.

In this regard, the Committee urges the State party to bring its legislation into line with articles 6 and 7 of the Covenant and International Labour Organization (ILO) Convention No. 29 concerning Forced or compulsory Labour.
