1. Takes note of the status of contributions to the United Nations Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea as at 30 April 2011, including the credits in the amount of 2.5 million United States dollars;

In response to the increasingly alarming situation, in June 2003 I appointed a Special Envoy for the Humanitarian Crisis in the Horn of Africa, who visited Eritrea and Ethiopia in July 2003.

During the armed conflict between Ethiopia and Eritrea in 1999 and 2000, many Eritreans who lived in Addis Ababa were forced to return to Eritrea.

UNHCR considers that the end of the war of independence in June 1991 and the end of the border conflict between Eritrea and Ethiopia in June 2000 have effectively removed the root causes of the Eritrean refugee problem.

10. The Advisory Committee was informed that, as at 28 February 2003, the incumbency for UNMEE for the period from 1 July 2002 to 30 June 2003 was as follows:

7. Regrettably, there has been no improvement with regard to the difficulties, mentioned in my last reports, experienced by UNMEE staff entering and exiting Ethiopia and Eritrea at the airports in the two capitals.
7 - ومن دواعي الأسف أنه لم يتحقق تحسن فيما يتعلق بالمشاكل المذكورة في تقاريري السابقة والتي يواجهها موظفو البعثة لدى دخول ومغادرة إثيوبيا وإريتريا في مطاري العاصمتين.

After the liquidation of UNMEE in 2009, this support will be provided by the Joint Support Coordination Mechanism.
