It is noteworthy that the 1989 Taif Agreement, like resolution 1559 (2004), called for the disbanding of all Lebanese and non-Lebanese militias and the delivery of their weapons to the Government of Lebanon.
والجدير بالملاحظة أن اتفاق الطائف لعام 1989 يدعو شأنه شأن القرار 1559 (2004) إلى حل المليشيات اللبنانية وغير اللبنانية، وتسليم أسلحتها إلى الحكومة اللبنانية.

In the same resolution, the Council also authorized the International Independent Investigation Commission to extend its technical assistance, as appropriate, to the Government of Lebanon with regard to the latter's investigations of the attacks since 1 October 2004.

Lebanon agreed to participate in the Peace Conference on the Middle East at Madrid and subsequent rounds of negotiations at Washington on the basis of resolution 425 (1978), as was confirmed by the letter of assurances dated 18 October 1991 from the Government of the United States of America, as co-sponsor of the Conference, to the Government of Lebanon.

Our position remains clear: Israel should withdraw from the Lebanese part of Ghajar with no prior conditions and work earnestly towards a final solution for this village within the specified time frame, after which it will be up to the Lebanese Government to decide on further action.

In August 2006, the special envoy participated at the ministerial level in the Conference for Lebanon's Early Recovery and the International Donor Conference on the Humanitarian Situation in the Palestinian Territories, held in Stockholm, where he announced that China would provide 20 million yuan renminbi in humanitarian assistance to the Lebanese Government.

I received a letter dated 29 January 2008 from the Prime Minister of Lebanon, Mr. Fuad Siniora (see annex), in which he requested technical assistance for the Government of Lebanon's efforts to investigate the murder of Major Wissam Eid of the Internal Security Forces, Adjutant Oussama Merheb and other civilians.
تلقيت رسالة مؤرخة 29 كانون الثاني/يناير 2008 من رئيس الوزراء اللبناني، السيد فؤاد السنيورة (انظر المرفق)، يطلب فيها تقديم مساعدة تقنية إلى الحكومة اللبنانية في مساعيها الرامية إلى التحقيق في اغتيال النقيب وسام عيد في قوى الأمن الداخلي والرقيب أول أسامة مرعب ومدنيين آخرين.

" It stresses that it is of the highest importance that the perpetrators, organizers and sponsors of this heinous crime are brought to justice and expresses its determination to support the efforts and commitment of the Government of Lebanon to this end.
