At its forty-eighth session, the General Assembly decided, in order to ensure an effective and efficient interaction between the Assembly, the Council and the individual Executive Boards, that each Board would submit an annual report on its programmes and activities to the Council at its substantive session (resolution 48/162, annex I, para. 29).

At its fifty-fourth session, the General Assembly requested the Secretary-General to submit a comprehensive report on the situation of refugees, returnees and displaced persons in Africa to the Assembly at its fifty-fifth session, and to present an oral report to the Council at its substantive session of 2000 (resolution 54/147).
