For its consideration of the item, the Meeting had before it two documents prepared by the Secretariat, entitled " Current situation with respect to regional and subregional cooperation " (UNODC/HONLAF/2005/2) and " Statistics on drug trends in Africa and worldwide " (UNODC/HONLAF/2005/CRP.1).

The regional programme enhanced mechanisms to share information on drug trends (Global Synthetics Monitoring: Analyses, Reporting and Trends programme) and promoted regional cooperation between judges and prosecutors and in the areas of trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants.

For example, the Paris Pact national strategic analysts launched four reports on illicit drug trends in early 2008 dealing, inter alia, with: opium cultivation; opiate production, trafficking and seizures; trafficking in precursor chemicals; and drug abuse and HIV/AIDS in Afghanistan, Pakistan and countries in Central Asia.
