A clear sign of the increased international attention to women's human rights in the area of peace and security is the adoption in 2000 of Security Council resolution 1325 (2000), which underlined the vital role played by women in conflict solution and the importance of undertaking measures that ensure the protection of and respect for human rights of women and girls when negotiating and implementing peace agreements.
