Thirty-one years have passed since the leaders of Africa adopted in July 1964, at Cairo, the pioneering resolution of the First Ordinary Session of the OAU Summit, which declared Africa a denuclearized zone.

On the other shore of the Atlantic, considerable progress has been made in bringing to fruition a nuclear-weapon-free zone in Africa, thus making possible the longstanding aspirations of the Declaration on the Denuclearization of Africa.
وعلـى الجانب اﻵخـر مــن اﻷطلسي، أحرز تقدم ملحوظ في سبيل إنشاء منطقـة خاليــة مــن اﻷسلحــة النووية فـي افريقيا، ممــا يجعـل مــن الممكـن تحقيـق التطلعات الطويلة اﻷمد بإعلان اعتبار افريقيا منطقة لا نووية.

As members know, the Declaration on the Denuclearization of Africa was adopted at the historic Cairo summit of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), held in 1964.
وكما يعلم اﻷعضاء، فإن إعلان اعتبار افريقيا منطقة لا نووية قد اعتمد في مؤتمر قمة القاهرة التاريخي الذي عقدته منظمة الوحدة الافريقية في عام ١٩٦٤.
