18- وأعرب ممثلو عدد من المجموعات الإقليمية عن تقديرهم للجهود التي يبذلها الأمين العام للأونكتاد من أجل تعزيز الأونكتاد وتقوية تأثير عمله، وذلك مثلاً من خلال مبادرات مثل حوارات جنيف، ولجهوده الرامية إلى تعزيز أهمية الأونكتاد، وتحسين التنسيق، وزيادة الكفاءة، وتحقيق نتائج واضحة.

Beside the current earmarked and proposed cluster trust funds, the Secretary-General of UNCTAD in consultation with the Trade and Development Board should seek authorization from the General Assembly to establish a non-earmarked general trust fund to support UNCTAD substantive operations, in particular its research and analysis work and technical cooperation activities.
ينبغي أن يلتمس الأمين العام للأونكتاد من الجمعية العامة، بالتشاور مع مجلس التجارة والتنمية، الإذن له، علاوة على الصناديق الاستئمانية الحالية المخصصة لأغراض محددة وتلك المقترحة للمجموعات المواضيعية، بإنشاء صندوق استئماني عام غير مخصص لغرض محدد لدعم عمليات الأونكتاد الفنية، ولا سيما أعمال البحث والتحليل وأنشطة التعاون التقني التي يضطلع بها.
