During his consultations with a Kurdish delegation in Amman in December 2003, the Special Rapporteur heard evidence on issues such as the Anfal campaign, executions and mass graves.

17. There is, however, abundant evidence, including statements of survivors, regarding the Anfal campaign.
17- غير أن هنالك قدراً وافراً من الأدلة، ومنها بيانات أدلى بها الناجون، بشأن حملة الأنفال.

The current trial, which will consider the Anfal campaign in northern Iraq against Kurdish populations during the late 1980s, began on 21 August 2006.

47. Investigation work so far has mainly retraced the history of the Anfal and Kuwaiti victims, including the arrest, detention and possible execution of missing persons.

In the Anfal case, the Iraqi High Tribunal formally charged six defendants with genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes for their alleged roles in planning, authorizing and executing the 1988 Anfal campaign, a series of large-scale attacks against the Kurdish population of northern Iraq, which involved the use of chemical weapons.
وفي قضية الأنفال، اتهمت المحكمة العليا العراقية رسميا ستة مدعى عليهم بارتكاب إبادة جماعية وجرائم ضد الإنسانية وجرائم حرب، لدورهم في التخطيط لحملة الأنفال عام 1988 والإذن بها وتنفيذها، وهي سلسلة من الهجمات الواسعة النطاق ضد السكان الأكراد في شمال العراق، شملت استخدام الأسلحة الكيميائية.

The majority of the 16,514 reported cases of disappearance concern persons of the Kurdish ethnic group who allegedly disappeared in 1988, in the context of the socalled " operation Anfal " , when the Government allegedly implemented a programme of destruction of villages and towns throughout Iraqi Kurdistan.
