In its resolution 59/86, the General Assembly requested the Secretary-General to continue to hold broad-based consultations with all Member States and interested regional and subregional organizations on further steps to enhance international cooperation in preventing, combating and eradicating illicit small arms and light weapons.

Pursuant to paragraph 5 of General Assembly resolution 59/86, the Department for Disarmament Affairs continued to hold broad-based consultations on further steps to enhance international cooperation in preventing, combating and eradicating illicit brokering in small arms and light weapons with all Member States and interested regional and subregional organizations.
