Article 7 of the Supplementary Convention defines a slave as " a person of servile status " following the same definition adopted by the Slavery Convention of 1926.

I strongly support these initiatives and urge all Member States to ratify the supplementary Convention on the Abolition of Slavery, develop robust and effective domestic legislation and boost enforcement on the ground.
وإني أؤيد بقوة هذه المبادرات وأحث جميع الدول الأعضاء على التصديق على الاتفاقية التكميلية لإلغاء الرق، ووضع تشريعات محلية متينة وفعالة، وتعزيز إنفاذها على أرض الواقع.

In addition, article 1 of the supplementary Convention on the Abolition of Slavery, the Slave Trade, and Institutions and Practices Similar to Slavery of 1956 states that States parties shall abolish or abandon:
