Ms. MTSHALI (South Africa), noting that the implementation of Protocol V would help to reduce significantly the risks to civilian populations arising from explosive remnants of war, announced that South Africa had embarked on the preparations necessary for notifying the Secretary-General of the United Nations of its consent to be bound by the Protocol, so that it could speedily enter into force for South Africa.
