In recent years, the trend seems to move towards development of a few indicators as reflected by the 10 Indicators for Environment by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) (2001), Headline Indicators by the European Environment Agency (EEA) in Environmental Signals (2002) and by a similar approach by the Canadian National Round Table on the environment and the economy (2003).
