The United Nations should build the capacity of countries, at their request, for the production, collection and analysis of data on crime and criminal justice, including by acting as a coordinator of assistance to Member States.

20. In terms of data collection and dissemination at the international level, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime is the mandated organization that regularly collects data on crime and criminal justice.

Work to improve statistical standards on crime statistics concentrated on the international classification of crime for statistical purposes, a highly needed tool to improve consistency, relevance and international comparability of data on crime.
10- وانصبّ التركيز في الأعمال المتعلقة بتحسين المعايير الإحصائية بشأن إحصاءات الجريمة على التصنيف الدولي للجريمة لأغراض إحصائية، وهو أداة تمسّ الحاجة إليها لتعزيز اتساق البيانات المتعلقة بالجريمة وأهميتها وقابليتها للمقارنة على الصعيد الدولي.

9. Requests the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime to continue developing technical and methodological tools to assist countries in producing and disseminating accurate and comparable statistics on crime and criminal justice, and to continue providing technical assistance, upon request, to Member States in order to enhance their capacity to collect, analyse and report data on crime and criminal justice;

This allows ICCS to be applicable to all forms of data on crime that are collected at different stages of the criminal justice process (police, prosecutions, courts and prisons) and across different data sources (administrative records and statistical surveys) (see E/CN.3/2013/11).
