One representative, speaking as Chair of the Interim Chemical Review Committee of the Rotterdam Convention, underlined the importance of ensuring that suitably qualified experts were selected by the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee.

Noting that the Chemical Review Committee of the Rotterdam Convention had a welcome package for new members, the representative of the Secretariat indicated that such a welcome package, including the handbook, the convention text and other materials, could be developed for incoming members of the Committee.

Such a model might also facilitate greater synergies with the Chemical Review Committee of the Rotterdam Convention and the Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee of the Stockholm Convention by allowing for similarly structured expert bodies.

In the spirit of achieving synergies, the terms of reference of the technical subsidiary body may be aligned with those of the Chemical Review Committee of the Rotterdam Convention and the Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee of the Stockholm Convention, with a view to enhancing cooperation and coordination with those subsidiary bodies.

The Committee decided that its tenth meeting would be held from 27 to 31 October 2014, back to back with the tenth meeting of the Rotterdam Convention's Chemical Review Committee, at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Rome.

The representative of the Secretariat introduced document UNEP/CHW/OEWG.8/INF/22, containing an outline of a paper on possible cooperation between the Chemical Review Committee of the Rotterdam Convention and the Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee of the Stockholm Convention.

Introducing the item, the representative of the Secretariat recalled that a joint intersessional working group established by the Committee and the Chemical Review Committee of the Rotterdam Convention at their joint meeting in 2013 had prepared guidance to assist the parties to the Rotterdam Convention and the Chemical Review Committee when a chemical under consideration was a persistent organic pollutant under the Stockholm Convention.
63 - استذكرت ممثلة الأمانة عند تقديمها لهذا البند أن الفريق العامل المشترك فيما بين الدورات الذي أنشأته اللجنة، ولجنة استعراض المواد الكيميائية التابعة لاتفاقية روتردام أثناء اجتماعهما المشترك في 2013، قد أعدا توجيهات لمساعدة الأطراف في اتفاقية روتردام ولجنة استعراض المواد الكيميائية عندما تكون المادة الكيميائية قيد النظر من بين الملوثات العضوية الثابتة بموجب اتفاقية استكهولم.

(e) Opportunities should be explored for the integration of the severely hazardous pesticide formulation reporting requirements of the Rotterdam Convention with the WHO pesticide data management system and community-based approach to pesticide poisonings piloted in selected countries.
(ﻫ) ينبغي استكشاف الفرص لإدماج متطلبات الإبلاغ عن تركيبات مبيدات الآفات شديدة الخطورة التابعة لاتفاقية روتردام مع نظام إدارة بيانات مبيدات الآفات التابع لمنظمة الصحة العالمية والنهج القائم على المجتمع المحلي إزاء حوادث التسمم بمبيدات الآفات لدى بلدان منتقاة.

Observer participation was welcomed and encouraged and the general view in the Committee of the Whole was that membership should not accord any particular status to users and producers. In addition, it was proposed that the Chemical Review Committee of the Rotterdam Convention with its provision for rotation of members should serve as a model upon which to base discussions on the terms of reference of the POPs Review Committee.

Mr. Arndt added that a joint meeting of the Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee and the Chemical Review Committee of the Rotterdam Convention on the Prior Informed Consent Procedure for Certain Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides in International Trade would be held on Sunday, 20 October 2013.

Two pilot training sessions were organized in conjunction with subregional awareness-raising workshops held in Armenia in November 2009 and Viet Nam in June 2010 to present, test and collect feedback on the prototype for import responses online module of the Rotterdam Convention components of the joint clearing-house mechanism.
