The delegation of Viet Nam takes note with appreciation of the outcome of the discussions held during the fifth meeting of the Open-ended Informal Consultative Process on Oceans and the Law of the Sea.

The annual sessions of the Open-ended Informal Consultative Process on oceans and the law of the sea are designed to augment the efforts of various States and organizations to achieve even higher indicators.
والدورات السنوية للعملية التشاورية غير الرسمية المفتوحة العضوية المعنية بالمحيطات وقانون البحار، تستهدف زيادة الجهود التي تبذلها مختلف الدول والمنظمات لتسجيل مؤشرات أعلى.

In accordance with that decision, the panel is to act as a steering committee to the informal open-ended consultative process established by the interim secretariat with decision 9/12 of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on Desertification (INCD) and continued pursuant to decision 10/9 of the INCD.

We welcome the decision to focus the twelfth Meeting of the Open-ended Informal Consultative Process on the assessment of progress to date and on the remaining gaps in the implementation of the outcomes of the major summits on sustainable development, together with new and emerging challenges.

In paragraph 68 of the same resolution the General Assembly recommended that the fifth meeting of the Open-ended Informal Consultative Process on oceans and the law of the sea, in New York from 7 to 11 June 2004, consider new sustainable uses of the oceans, including the conservation and management of the biological diversity of the seabed in areas beyond national jurisdiction.
وفي الفقرة 68 من القرار ذاته، أوصت الجمعية العامة بأن تعمد العملية التشاورية غير الرسمية المفتوحة العضوية بشـأن المحيطات وقانون البحار، في اجتماعها الخامس، المعقود في نيويورك في الفترة من 7 إلى 11 حزيران/يونيه 2004، إلى النظر في الاستخدامات المستدامة الجديدة للمحيطات، بمـا فـي ذلك حفـظ وإدارة التنـوع البيولوجـي لقاع البحر في المناطق التي تتجاوز نطاق الولاية الوطنية.
