Mr. Kaba (Guinea) said that his Government had ratified all the conventions emanating from the Rio Conference and that it was in the process of implementing an ambitious national development programme integrating the objectives of sustainable development with the struggle against desertification and poverty.

They reiterated that the UNCCD process has reached the stage in which there is a need to establish an intergovernmental advisory body on DLDD issues, which could provide policymakers with authoritative and expert advice for effective decision-making processes to reverse desertification and land degradation, build resilience to drought and break the nexus between desertification and poverty.
وأكدوا مجدداً على أن عملية اتفاقية مكافحة التصحر قد بلغت مرحلة يتعين معها إنشاء هيئة استشارية حكومية دولية تعنى بقضايا التصحّر وتدهور الأراضي والجفاف تكون قادرة على تزويد أصحاب القرار بمشورة الخبراء الموثوق بها ليستعان بها في عمليات اتخاذ القرارات الفعالة للحد من التصحر وتدهور الأراضي وبناء القدرة على مقاومة الجفاف وقطع الصلة بين التصحر والفقر.
