In connection with the establishment of ad hoc working groups, the Officer-in-charge of UNCTAD recalled that the Trade and Development Board, by its decision 399 (XXXIX) of 9 October 1992, had established an Ad Hoc Working Group to Explore the Issue of structural adjustment for the transition to Disarmament.

It was suggested that the first session of the Ad Hoc Working Group should take place as early as possible in 1994.

(a) To request the President of the thirty-ninth session of the Board to conduct, for about two days in the week of 14 to 18 June 1993, informal consultations on the draft terms of reference and the timetable of the Ad Hoc Working Group to explore the issue of structural adjustment for the transition to disarmament, with a view to facilitating a prompt decision on this issue by the Board;
