At its substantive session of 1997, the Council requested the Secretary-General to convene an interregional expert group meeting to elaborate specific recommendations for guidelines for sustainable consumption patterns for submission to the Council at its substantive session of 1998 through the Commission on Sustainable Development at its sixth session.

23. It is clear that, as reflected in the decision of the Commission on Sustainable Development at its sixth session, the main responsibility for education, and therefore for the work programme, lies with Governments and other actors at the national and local levels.

وقد أوصى المجلس بأن يضع اجتماع فريق الخبراء اﻷقاليمي توصيات محددة بمبادئ توجيهيـة ﻷنماط الاستهلاك المستدامـة مـن أجـل تقديمها إلى المجلس في دورته الموضوعية لعام ١٩٩٨، عن طريق لجنة التنمية المستدامة في دورتها السادسة.

13. In response to the main decisions of the Commission on Sustainable Development at its sixth session in the field of freshwater, the organization members of the ACC Subcommittee on Water Resources, at its nineteenth session (see ACC/1998/18), made the following decisions:

The UNCED integrated water resources management principles (chapter 18 of Agenda 21) have been elaborated upon and refined by several other international water meetings, including, the United Nations Expert Group Meeting on Strategic Approaches to Freshwater Management and the Commission on Sustainable Development at its sixth session (1998).
