The decision of the special session of the ninth session of the Forum on forest financing had been taken at a critical time, when the pivotal role of forests in advancing sustainable development agendas and the global efforts to fight climate change were being recognized more than ever before.
علما بأن قرار الجلسة الاستثنائية المعقودة في إطار الدورة التاسعة للمنتدى بخصوص تمويل الغابات قد اتخذ في وقت حرج كان يجري فيه الاعتراف، أكثر من أي وقت مضى، بالدور المحوري للغابات في الدفع قُدما ببرامج التنمية المستدامة والجهود العالمية لمكافحة تغير المناخ.

17. Mr. Ruales explained that the Organization-Led Initiative was organized in response to two invitations by the Forum to the Collaborative Partnership on Forests, in the resolution of the special session of the ninth session of the Forum, and the resolution adopted at the ninth session.

8. The secretariat of the United Nations Forum on Forests introduced the relevant documents to the session and a compact disc was distributed to all experts, which included all the documents of the Forum relevant to forest financing since the special session of the ninth session.

65. Owing to their important role, the resolution adopted at the special session of the ninth session of the Forum specifically requested that the decision on forest financing at the tenth session of the Forum should take into account the work of forest-related financing mechanisms and processes.

At its 47th plenary meeting, on 15 December 2009, the Economic and Social Council decided to take note of the report of the United Nations Forum on Forests on the special session of the ninth session.
