To mark the opening of the fifty-third session of the General Assembly and to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Interfaith Center of New York and the Temple of Understanding are organizing the Second Annual Interfaith Service of Commitment to the Work of the United Nations.

35. On 26 February 1993, the Commission on Human Rights meeting at Geneva, adopted, without a vote, resolution 1993/17 on Western Sahara, similar in content to General Assembly resolution 47/25.

The present report is prepared in response to General Assembly resolution 55/281 of 1 August 2001, by which the Assembly calls upon Governments, regional and subregional organizations, as well as relevant civil society actors to consider the report of the Secretary-General on the prevention of armed conflict (A/55/985-S/2001/574 and Corr.1).
