14. The most viable alternative chosen for the refurbishment was constructing of a building in the vicinity of the United Nations to provide swing space that would accommodate not only the Secretariat, but also the functions of the General Assembly and all other conferences and meetings.

In conclusion, I should like to reaffirm that one of the basic mandates of the United Nations is to promote action in the economic and social fields, putting development at the forefront of its concerns so as to achieve or maintain international peace and security. My delegation stands ready to work with the President of the General Assembly and all delegations to carry out this important mission — drawing up an Agenda for Development.
وفي الختام، أود أن أؤكد مجددا على أن احدى الولايات اﻷساسية لﻷمم المتحدة تتمثل في تشجيع العمل في المجالين الاقتصادي والاجتماعي واحلال التنمية في مركز الصدارة من اهتماماتها وذلك لتحقيق أو صون السلم واﻷمن الدوليين، وأن وفد بلادي على استعداد للعمل مع رئيس الجمعية العامة وجميع الوفود للاضطلاع بهذه المهمة الهامة أي وضع خطة التنمية.

(i) Recognizing that the roots of racism are based in economic policies of exploitation, the General Assembly and all United Nations bodies should ensure that the new world economic order will provide international guidelines that would constitute the basis for equality in economic, social and cultural development.
