He also stressed that, by allowing developed countries to focus on the right to an adequate standard of living while insisting that developing countries acknowledge the right to food, the Committee was perhaps contributing to the perpetuation of a dramatic double standard.

" 61. Since the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948, the right to adequate housing has been recognized as an important component of the right to an adequate standard of living.

International articulations of the right to an adequate standard of living - including those set forth in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights - recognize the right to food as an essential component of the right to health.
