The objectives of the report were to assess available information on routes used for trafficking in persons and to shed light on the characteristics of the victims and perpetrators of such trafficking.

In its resolution 5/4, the Conference requested UNODC to conduct a study of the transnational nature of and routes used in trafficking in firearms, based on the analysis of information provided by States on confiscated weapons and ammunition.

(b) Existing studies, information, data or assessments carried out by the State party on the transnational nature of trafficking in firearms and the routes used in smuggling firearms into and out of its territory, and descriptions of the methodology used;

The starting point for a comprehensive study of the transnational nature of and routes used in trafficking in firearms must therefore be the firearm itself, and the wealth of data it can provide.
7- ولذلك، فإنَّ نقطة البدء في إعداد دراسة شاملة عن الطابع عبر الوطني للاتّجار بالأسلحة النارية وعن الدروب المستخدمة في ذلك الاتّجار يجب أن تكون السلاح الناري نفسه، والبيانات الوفيرة التي يمكن أن يقدِّمها.

(f) To invite States to make available financial resources for the implementation of a pilot study on the transnational nature of and the routes used in trafficking in firearms, focusing on a specific region or a subregion.

On 17 June 2010, UNODC launched a report entitled The Globalization of Crime: A Transnational Organized Crime Threat Assessment, which contains a chapter on routes used to smuggle migrants from Latin America to the United States and from Africa to Europe.

A section of that document will address the importance of the regular collection and periodic analysis of relevant data on seized and confiscated firearms for the purpose of monitoring illicit firearms trafficking flows, and will contain a description of the current status of the work of UNODC in conducting a study of the transnational nature of and routes used in trafficking in firearms.
وثمَّة باب في تلك الوثيقة سوف يتناول أهمية الجمع المنتظم والتحليل الدوري للبيانات ذات الصلة بالأسلحة النارية المضبوطة والمصادرة، لغرض رصد تدفُّقات الاتجار غير المشروع بالأسلحة النارية، كما سيتضمَّن عرضاً للحالة الراهنة لما يقوم به مكتب المخدِّرات والجريمة من أعمال في سبيل إجراء دراسة عن الطابع عبر الوطني للاتجار بالأسلحة النارية وعن الدروب المستخدمة فيه.

In that resolution, the Conference requested the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to conduct a study of the transnational nature of and routes used in trafficking in firearms, based on the analysis of information provided by States on confiscated weapons and ammunition, for consideration by the Conference at its sixth session.
2- وفي ذلك القرار، طلب المؤتمر إلى مكتب الأمم المتحدة المعني بالمخدرات والجريمة (المكتب) أن يجري دراسة عن الطابع عبر الوطني للاتّجار بالأسلحة النارية وعن الدروب المستخدمة في ذلك الاتّجار، بالاستناد إلى تحليل المعلومات المقدَّمة من الدول عن الأسلحة والذخيرة المصادرة، لكي ينظر فيها المؤتمر في دورته السادسة.

In its resolution 5/4, the Conference requested UNODC to develop technical assistance tools in order to support the implementation of the Protocol as well as to finalize and disseminate the model law on firearms and to develop other technical assistance tools, including a study of the transnational nature of and routes used in trafficking in firearms.
وطلب المؤتمر، في قراره 5/4، إلى المكتب أن يستحدث أدوات للمساعدة التقنية من أجل دعم تنفيذ البروتوكول وكذلك لوضع القانون النموذجي بشأن الأسلحة النارية في صيغته النهائية وتعميمه، وأن يستحدث أدوات أخرى للمساعدة التقنية، منها دراسة عن الطابع عبر الوطني للاتجار بالأسلحة النارية وعن الدروب المستخدمة في ذلك الاتجار.
