341. As evidenced by presentations and reports for the thirteenth session of the Commission on Science and Technology for Development and during the intersessional panel, 10 new measures and initiatives have been adopted at the national level in line with policy recommendations contained in resolutions of the Economic and Social Council.

76. The members of SADC agreed with the observation by the Secretary-General in his report contained in document A/60/261 that one challenge facing the international community was to ensure effective follow-up to the policy decisions on water, sanitation and human settlements adopted at the thirteenth session of the Commission on Sustainable Development and to continue refining the methods of work of the Commission.

1 - يستحث الحكومات على جميع المستويات على القيام على نحو نشط بمتابعة إدراج المواضيع الثلاثة المتعلقة بالمياه والتصحاح والمستوطنات البشرية أثناء الدورة الثالثة عشرة للجنة المعنية بالتنمية المستدامة، حيث أن المستوطنات البشرية توفر إطاراً محدداً للإجراءات المتعلقة بالسياسات التي يمكن أن تسهم في ترجمة الأهداف والسياسات العالمية إلى واقع عملي؛

Recommends that the United Nations Human Settlements Programme should be the focal point for following up and monitoring the outcomes of the thirteenth session of the Commission on Sustainable Development pertaining to human settlements and in that context should provide practical and effective policy options, as requested by the Commission on Sustainable Development at its twelfth session;
5 - يوصي أيضاً بأن يكون برنامج الأمم المتحدة للمستوطنات البشرية نقطة الاتصال لمتابعة ورصد ما تسفر عنه الدورة الثالثة عشرة للجنة المعنية بالتنمية المستدامة من نتائج تتعلق بالمستوطنات البشرية وأن يقوم في هذا السياق بتقديم خيارات السياسة العامة العملية والفعالة على نحو ما تطلبه اللجنة المعنية بالتنمية المستدامة في دورتها الثانية عشرة؛

She also presented the results of the thirteenth session of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women, including its suggestion No. 5 relating to an optional protocol to the Convention meant to provide for a complaints procedure, as well as the request of the Committee to extend the time allocated to the Committee.
