69. The Special Rapporteur noted the adoption of General Assembly resolution 57/219 of 18 December 2002 in which it affirmed that States must ensure that any measure taken to combat terrorism complies with their obligations under international law.

The Arab States recall the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice on 8 July 1996 concerning the legality of the threat of use of nuclear weapons in which the Court found that there exists an obligation to pursue in good faith, and bring to a conclusion, negotiations leading to nuclear disarmament in all its aspects under strict and effective international control.
6 - كما تذكِّر بالرأي الاستشاري لمحكمة العدل الدولية الصادر في 8 تموز/يوليه 1996 بشأن مشروعية التهديد بالأسلحة النووية أو استخدامها، الذي أكدت فيه أن هناك التزاما قائما بالعمل، بحسن نية، على متابعة وإكمال المفاوضات المؤدية إلى نزع السلاح النووي بكافة جوانبه تحت رقابة دولية مشددة وفعالة.

That mandate was reaffirmed by the Assembly in its resolution 1721 (XVI) of 20 December 1961, in which it confirmed its belief that the United Nations should provide a focal point for international cooperation in the peaceful exploration and use of outer space.

5. The African Ministerial Workshop on Organized Crime, held at Dakar from 21 to 23 July 1997, adopted the Dakar Declaration on the Prevention and Control of Organized Transnational Crime and Corruption, in which it stressed the role of UNAFRI as a very useful vehicle for enhancing regional cooperation and coordination in the fight against crime and urged all countries of the region to comply with their obligation to support the Institute.
٥ - وقد اعتمدت حلقة العمل الوزارية اﻷفريقية المعنية بالجريمة المنظمة التي عقدت في داكار، السنغال، في الفترة من ٢١ إلى ٢٣ تموز/يوليه ١٩٩٧، إعلان داكار لمنع الجريمة عبر الوطنية المنظمة والفساد ومكافحتهما، الذي أكدت فيه دور المعهد باعتباره وسيلة مفيدة للغاية لتعزيز التعاون والتنسيق على الصعيد اﻹقليمي في مكافحة الجريمة وحثت جميع بلدان المنطقة على الوفاء بالتزامها إزاء دعم المعهد.
